Good Morning Members,
The annual summer classic known as our RDGC Men's and Ladies Club Championship took place over this weekend with 36 holes of flighted stroke play to determine our 2025 champions. A field of 56 players tackled a golf course that was in great shape despite the horrid weather week we experienced. A major thank you to Derek Carter, Charlie Clark and the RDGC Maintenance Team for their hard work and championship efforts-including a small army of machines making their way onto the course on Saturday at 5 AM to get full course mowing in after way too many rain interruptions.
Several great showdowns took place in each flight. In the "D" Flight, Dave Debreceni's career opening round of 77 took control of his flight and his following 90-167 total captured the crown over John Villane's 87-87-174 total and John Merulla's 86-88-174. In "C" Flight, Connor Van Dine's 80-83-163 total was enough to nip Michael Martin's 82-82 despite Martin's closing birdies on 16 and 18. In "B" Flight, Ray Grier prevailed over John Myerski in a two-hole sudden death playoff after rounds of 79-77 to Myerski's 80-76. The "A" Flight saw John Mack capture the crown with rounds of 75-76-151 beating Pete Benedetti's outstanding first round 72 coupled with 83 for a 155 total.
The Ladies Flight saw the emergence of a young superstar in Rylee Delaney as she fired rounds of 76-74-150 to capture the crown over former champions Rose Gallagher and Sue Reutter.
In the Championship Flight, for the fifth time Steve Barry captured the title, rebounding from an opening round 82 from the 7,148-yard Black Tees to fire an excellent 73-155 total to top University of Wilmington golf team member James Derocini's 79-79-158 total.
Special thank you to Harrison McGuigan, PGA Membership Services Director for his photography. More of his photos will be posted shortly.
A great "Championship Weekend" at The Deer!
Best Wishes,
